The International Herald Tribune is, I think, one of the best online news sources when it comes to usability. They use this new old technique with a new name called Ajax, using Javascript to do a lot of the work. I especially like their easy-to-read multi-column layout, so that text never runs for more than about 7 words wide. Also, check out the embedded language tools (translations to various languages, and built-in dictionary).
