Sigma 50mm f/1.4
Well, I've been so lax about posting here I haven't even mentioned buying a new lens before Christmas: the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM ($450 street price). Here's a review.
I got this instead of the Nikon I mentioned before mostly due to time constraints. I wanted to use the lens while I was visiting Boston over the holiday, and the Nikon wasn't yet available. I'm not sure when it will be available, actually. But, never mind: I'm very happy with the Sigma, though it's a bit of a bear to lug around. I'm glad my D40 body is tiny and light.
I used it on this set:
And here's an exploitation of bokeh:

i love the canon ae-1 program. i found a great deal on ebay: body, 50mm f/1.8, 200mm f/4 all in a nice little bag with some accessories, all for about $100.
i used it for a couple of weeks before giving it to a friend of mine who was taking a photography class. she'd been using a shutter-priority canon slr (don't remember which model), and was using B to manually get low shutter speeds.

nice shots, both. The outstretched arm is rad, as is the nice crisp focus on the glasses. I borrowed a Nikon f/1.4 for a day and, though I was limited to manual focus took some nice portraits with it.
I covet the f1.4 so much I almost bought one for my Canon AE-1 film camera, simply because it's only $75 and I can't afford the dig version for the Nikon.
Keep posting pics w/ it :)
